How to count the days between two dates
- Pick a start date and an end date. They are filled in with today and the end of the year to start with.
- The number of days appears instantly, along with the same period in years, months and days, in weeks, and split into weekdays and weekend days.
- Tick Include the end date when both days count – for example, a holiday from Monday to Friday is 5 days, not 4.
Adding and subtracting days
Use the second calculator to find a deadline or a past date: 30 days from today, 6 weeks before an event, or 10 business days after an order. Business days skip Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays differ by country and are not skipped, so check your local calendar for those.
FAQ
How many days are there in a year?
365, or 366 in a leap year. Leap years are divisible by 4, except century years that are not divisible by 400: 2000 and 2024 were leap years, 2100 will not be.
Does daylight saving time affect the result?
No. The calculator counts calendar days, so a day with a clock change still counts as one day.
What happens when adding a month to 31 January?
The result is the last day of February (28 or 29), because February has no 31st. Spreadsheet programs such as Excel’s EDATE work the same way.
