Image Resizer

Resize and compress images online for free. Change the width and height, convert between JPG, PNG and WebP, and adjust quality. No upload.

How to resize an image

  1. Choose an image, drag it onto the box, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on Mac).
  2. Type a new width or height, or pick a quick size such as 50% or 1280 px wide. With Keep aspect ratio on, the other side adjusts automatically so the image isn’t stretched.
  3. Choose the format and quality, check the preview and the new file size, then click Download.

How to make an image file smaller

  • Reduce the dimensions. A photo from a phone is often 4000 px wide; 1280–1920 px is plenty for websites, email and social media, and the file becomes many times smaller.
  • Use JPG or WebP for photos. A quality of 70–85% usually looks the same as the original at a fraction of the size. WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG.
  • Use PNG for screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges, text or transparency. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not apply.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Resizing and compression happen inside your browser using the HTML canvas, so your photos never leave your device. This also makes it fast, even on a slow connection.

Is the photo’s metadata kept?

No. The new image does not include EXIF metadata such as camera details or GPS location, which is good for privacy when sharing photos online. The picture is rotated correctly before the metadata is removed.

Why is my transparent background white?

JPG does not support transparency. Choose PNG or WebP to keep a transparent background.
