Remove Line Breaks

Remove line breaks from text copied from PDFs or emails. Join lines with spaces, keep paragraphs and remove extra spaces.

How to remove line breaks

  1. Paste your text into the top box.
  2. Choose Keep paragraphs to join the lines inside each paragraph but keep blank lines between paragraphs, or Remove all line breaks to turn everything into one line.
  3. Copy the cleaned-up text from the result box.

Why does copied text have broken lines?

PDFs, plain-text emails and some websites store text as separate lines, each ending with a hard line break. When you paste that text into a document or a form, every line stays broken in the middle of a sentence. This tool joins those lines back into normal flowing paragraphs.

Options

  • Replace line breaks with – use a space for normal text, nothing for text that should be glued together, or a comma to turn a list into a single comma-separated line.
  • Remove extra spaces – collapses double spaces and tabs into a single space.
  • Join hyphenated words – turns “exam-” at the end of one line and “ple” on the next into “example”, which is common in text copied from PDFs and books.
