Metric, US and imperial units
Most of the world uses the metric system (meters, kilograms, liters, °C). The United States uses US customary units (feet, pounds, US gallons, °F), and the United Kingdom still uses some imperial units such as miles, pints and stones. US and UK units with the same name can differ: a US gallon is about 17% smaller than a UK gallon, and US fluid ounces and pints differ too, which is why both are listed.
FAQ
Why are there two kinds of kilobytes?
Storage makers use powers of 1000 (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes), while operating systems such as Windows often count in powers of 1024 (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes). That is why a “1 TB” drive shows as about 931 GB on a computer.
How accurate are the results?
The conversion factors are the official definitions (for example, an inch is exactly 2.54 cm), and results are shown with up to 10 decimal places.
